PHILOSOPHIES |

My philosophies regarding audio and A/V practice - whether live or installed, design or operation - are:
*Use only the components necessary to achieve the desired result. *If one piece of gear can do the job of two, use the one. *Throw sound only where you need it, not where you don't need it. *Evaluate products and techniques based on their own strengths and weaknesses, not on their popularity. *Integrate systems according to proven, by-the-book methods. Don't cheat or cut corners. *Convert signal types or formats only when absolutely necessary. *Solve acoustic problems acoustically, not electronically. *Fix problems at the source; prevent problems proactively. *Design systems appropriately for their environments and the expectations and skill levels of their operators.
These ideals are reflected in my favorite quotes: “An engineer is someone who can do for two cents what any damn fool can do for three cents.” - Synth pioneer Robert Moog, attributed to his engineering college dean “Foolish man use hands to look for needle in haystack; wise man use magnet.” - Apocryphal; facetiously attributed to Confucius |
