ABOUT ME: PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Listed here is my work experience, in reverse chronological order. The end years show when I left a permanent position; however, I have ongoing relationships with most of the firms below:

 

Independent, 1990-1995 and 1998-present (List of accounts available upon request.)

*Work for various PA and AV staging/rental companies, performing FOH or monitor mix or tech duties; A1, A2, or general assist duties; show prep/design assistance; and maintenance assistance.

*Work for various sound and A/V contractors, assisting with large install and re-work projects as a tech or foreman, or performing smaller installs as a self-managed subcontractor.

*Provide tech support services to event and meeting venues.

*Design and install, or re-work, wiring and equipment in recording and post-production studios.

*Provide music editing and voice recording/editing services.

*Provide consulting services.

 

Audio-Visual Manager, UIC Pavilion (a 10,000-seat multipurpose arena in Chicago), 1998-2007

*Set up and run FOH/monitors, scoring/timing systems, and digital signage for events using house A/V - such as basketball games, commencement ceremonies and association events.

*Consulted with clients and Pavilion staff on A/V requirements for events; coordinated equipment rentals as needed.

*Serviced, maintained and managed inventory of portable and permanent audio-visual equipment.

*Hired and scheduled student employees.

*Specified and oversaw audio-visual upgrades performed by outside contractors.

*Re-habbed and optimized entire existing PA system, and trained existing employees on proper live sound procedures.

*Established regular preventative maintenance plans, labor scheduling procedures and student employee hiring criteria.

*Developed long-term upgrade path for arena and portable PA systems. Incrementally upgraded amplifiers, system processing, mix position and signal transport to digital components in accordance with upgrade path.

*Optimized and documented all datacom infrastructure around building.

*Designed and fabricated cables, snakes, breakin/breakout boxes and portable sound systems for in-house use.

*Installed audio and datacom tielines as needed based on event demands.

 

Installation & Field Service Technician, Allen Visual Systems (a commercial audio-visual contractor in the Chicago area), 1997-1998

*Performed field installation of sound reinforcement, audio-visual, videoconference and audioconference systems in various corporate and academic facilities, such as meeting rooms, classrooms, and exhibits.

*Performed shop fabrication, and assembly of racks, wiring looms and mounting systems; performed hardware modifications as required for proper integration.

*Performed field service (maintenance and troubleshooting) on installed systems.

*Performed minor bench repair and maintenance jobs (such as cleaning, re-soldering connections and replacing lamps).

*Assisted rental/production department with larger shows.

 

Installation & Field Service Technician, BG Electronics (a commercial sound contractor in the Chicago area), 1997

*Performed field installation of sound reinforcement, background music and intercom systems in commercial venues such as houses of worship, restaurants, industrial facilities, and schools.

*Performed field service (maintenance and troubleshooting) on installed systems.

 

Audio Systems Engineer, Ivan Carlson Associates/Theater Design Associates (an event design/production and hi-end home theater design firm in Chicago), 1995-1997

*Set up and operated live sound and video for corporate events and festivals.

*Consulted with sales personnel on A/V needs for live shows and custom home theater installations.

*Coordinated productions, and booked freelance labor and subrentals.

*Serviced, maintained and managed inventory of rental audio and electrical equipment.

*Specify new equipment and system purchases.

*Re-organized audio department filing and equipment/parts storage areas; built plug-and-play amp racks matched to existing speaker systems and fabricated cable assemblies as needed to streamline show prep and setup.

 

Audio-Visual Technician, UIC Chicago Circle Center (a university meeting and recreational facility), 1994-1995

*Re-organized audio-visual department filing and equipment/parts storage areas to streamline operations.

*Wrote department manual covering proper use and setup of, and trained building managers on, all portable and installed audio-visual equipment and systems in building.

*Serviced, maintained and managed inventory of portable and permanent audio-visual equipment.

*Set up and operated audio-visual equipment for meetings, concerts, plays, fashion shows, and other special events.

*Coordinated equipment subrentals and vendors for large productions.

Assistant Engineer, ARS Recording Studio (Alsip, IL - south Chicago suburbs), 1994-1995

*Assisted with mic and headset setup and teardown, and session paperwork, on music recording sessions.

*Ran office on Saturdays.

*Assisted with cassette /CD duplication and routine maintenance.

 

Intern, Dopper Studios (a five-studio recording complex in Atlanta, GA), Fall 1992

*Managed tape library and processed lunch orders.

*Assisted with maintenance tasks.
